It's Back to School - for me!

Today marks the start of my Fall semester of college. I work at a university so I receive free tuition to further my education. I'm a bit nervous and excited. Last semester was my first semester back after so many years being out of school. Some have congratulated me while others have scoffed at the idea of me going back. Mostly because of my age and because I have 2 children. I am breaking stereotypes. I can still work full time, attend college part time, and still be an amazing mom to my children. Some of the world still believes that women should stay home. That's just not me. I'm all for women empowerment and so is my mother. Which is why my parents raised me to be independent and strong minded. I felt like sharing my thoughts today because I had received a negative reaction to my enrollment in college. I have a daughter and a son. I will teach my daughter how to rely on herself to get things finished and handled. I will teach my son how to rely on himself to get things finished and handled. I see too many women and men that rely on others and their partners. It is time to show the world that women can do anything a man can and men can do anything a woman can. Let go of the gender roles and live your life. Don't be ashamed to be the best version of yourself.
