Want to decorate your own eggs with your children using natural dyes? Well I've got just the idea for you! I hate the idea of going out and buying the whole Easter Egg dying kit and then my hands turning all sorts of funky colors. So I googled some DIY natural egg dyeing methods and I found this!
Bluish-Gray
Mix 1 cup frozen blueberries with 1 cup water, bring to room temperature, and remove blueberries.

Blue
Cut 1/4 head of red cabbage into chunks and add to 4 cups boiling water. Stir in 2 Tbsp. vinegar. Let cool to room temperature and remove cabbage with a slotted spoon.

Jade Green

Various shades: Steep 4 bags of chamomile or green tea in 1 cup boiling water for 5 minutes.

Pink
Faint pink: Chop 4 oz. amaranth flowers and simmer in 2 cups water; strain. Add 2 tsp. white vinegar. Simmer the skins from 6 avocados in 1-1/2 cup water for 20 minutes; strain. Add 2 tsp. white vinegar. Mix 1 cup pickled beet juice and 1 tablespoon vinegar.
Dark pink: Cut 1 medium beet into chunks and add to 4 cups boiling water. Stir in 2 Tbsp. vinegar and let cool to room temperature; remove beets.
Faint pink: Chop 4 oz. amaranth flowers and simmer in 2 cups water; strain. Add 2 tsp. white vinegar. Simmer the skins from 6 avocados in 1-1/2 cup water for 20 minutes; strain. Add 2 tsp. white vinegar. Mix 1 cup pickled beet juice and 1 tablespoon vinegar.

Mix 1 cup grape juice and 1 tablespoon vinegar.

You can also marbleize the shells themselves, using the Shaving Cream Technique:
- Spread white shaving cream onto a cookie sheet
- Apply drops of natural dye/color pigments across the surface
- Use toothpicks to swirl colors
- Roll dry, cool hard-boiled eggs in the colored shaving cream
- Allow color to set for a few minutes
- Wipe off shaving cream with a paper towel
- Rinse and admire beautiful marbleized eggs!
If you want to skip the messiness of dyeing altogether,
temporary tattoos and stickers adhere quite well to egg shells, and are mess-free.
And you can always clean up afterwards with Seventh Generation 100% recycled
paper towels.
